Here it is, eleven days into the new year, and I still haven't figured out what measurable goals I want to set for 2006.

One thing that I've done so far for 2006 is post an entry to unfinishedtales every day. They haven't all been story etnries -- my entry on the 1/1/06 was a silly throw-away with two of my characters complaining about the picture I did of one of them last year. One I posted this morning was a new story bit that I'm thinking of continuing. The rest have been Silver Scales.

Posting an entry each day does mean I'm writing more, although I'm not sure how much more, since I'm posting shorter entries now. Where normally I might save an entry without posting, and continue it later, now I'll post it as soon as I reach a vaguely acceptable break point.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I don't want to make a resolution about writing every day. During the week, I'm already spending nine or so hours on work and another two hours on exercise. Throw another hour of writing on top of that and there's not much time left to get anything else done without giving up sleep. Which I usually wind up doing. But I don't want to plan my life around giving up sleep.

In fact, I don't want to plan my life at all. I like unstructured time. I don't like looking ahead to an evening that's already mapped out with plans I'm not supposed to change. I'd rather be able to do what I want, when I want to. Maybe I'll make some variant on that for my resolution. Or I could do a variant on my "If it's productive and I want to do it, it's important" resolution from last year. Ie, resolve to spend X amount of time per week doing "productive" things. And then not worry too much about which ones I do or don't get done.

Maybe my first resolution should be "Get some resolutions together before it's 2007."
