Sith Warrior Fanfic

I forgot, Quinn needs upgrades too. He uses Cunning, just like you, Mom. He's a clever man but I don't know if you'd like him. Very by-the-book. I appreciate having him on my team, to be frank. You'd get on better with Vette, I imagine ... most of the time, so do I.

Anyway, his armor. Right.

His earpiece is from level 30; I don't know if you've got better. I hope so.

He can use a 37 blue mod if you've got it. I have him in green gear, unfortunately. Do you have any custom he can wear?

So I've included the mods in this package, but they come with a price! You must tell me more about this Vette girl. Is she pretty?

Thank you, mom. I know your crew works hard keeping mine in one piece; I do appreciate it. Truly.

Vette ...

I don't know. She's a blue Twi'lek, tall and very slender -- sometimes I wonder if she doesn't like the food in the Empire -- with a narrow face and sharp features. I should just send you a picture. Not that I think for a moment that "what does she look like?" is what you actually want to know. But here's a picture anyway.

You 'don't know'? How can you not know? Did the Empire blind you? You are still male, right? She looks lovely. And yes, I want you to tell me what she's like. And don't tell me you don't know!

It's just ... I don't know where to start. Not that I don't know. Here, let me tell you about the first time I saw her.

I was at the Sith academy jail (because how could a Sith academy function without a jail? It had two jails, now that I recall -- one for PoWs and one for prisoners from within the Empire, I believe). Vette was a prisoner there, and she was chatting at the jailer. Who, being a small-minded pig, was not enjoying her attempts at conversation. He threatened her: "One more chirp out of you ... "

And she responded with "Chirp! Chirp!"

He answered by activating her shock collar.

When he was done and Vette was getting back to her feet, she said "Ow! If you don't like birdcalls, you could just say so! I can do other animals. Rancor, vorantiki, you name it."

And that's when I knew I had to get her out of there.

She was a light in the darkness in that miserable, fear-infested cesspit. She's not fearless but she acts fearless. She has an actual functioning sense of humor -- no, the Empire does not surgically remove it from everyone, it just seems that way. She's smart, cheerful, good-natured, determined, and talks back to everyone. Including Quinn. Drives him crazy. But the other day, he needed her for a demolitions assignment and even he had to admit no one else could have done the job better when she finished.

Anyway, I convinced Darth Baras to gift Vette to me while I was still on Korriban, and I set her free as soon as I could. I don't think she quite believed that she was actually free at first, because she stuck around anyway. I think she's figured out that I meant it by now, but she's still in my crew. Perhaps because she likes me, or perhaps she just doesn't have anywhere else to go. She's had a hard life, enslaved and freed and then enslaved again after she was betrayed by a contact while working with a Twi'lek liberation group. She puts on a brave front of cocky self-confidence, but it masks some deep insecurities.

You really love this girl, don't you?

And ... dammit, I know I've apologized before, but dammit. I am so sorry, Voiddancer. You never should've ended up in that place, working for those monsters. You or your sister. I should've dug deeper, should've known that transport wasn't really destroyed, should have ... done something. To get my babies back. God, it hurt so much to lose you. Sorry. I shouldn't dump that on you. I just want you to know that I love you, and you deserved better. You ever need a hand getting away from the Sith, you say the word, okay? We can get you out of there.

PS: Also, I'm sorry about your name. I don't know what I was thinking. I was 17 and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

It's all right, mom. I know. I'm fine now, and we found each other again, and that's all that matters. I don't know how you could've known that Imperial slavers got us off the transport before it was destroyed. And I think I can do some good here. Not everyone working for the Empire is as crazy as the Sith. Someone has to work the system from the inside and try to reform it, help people where we can.

Kitty's fine too. I send her medpacks and implants from time to time. She's working with a loyal Imperial agent. And no, loyalty is not a bad thing, even when directed at the Empire.

Also, it would be wholly inappropriate for me to be in love with a member of my crew, a subordinate and former slave. It would be completely unfair to Vette to place that kind of pressure on her.

I know you're all right now, it's just .... sigh.

I noticed you didn't actually answer my question.

Hopelessly.

Does she know?

I suspect so. Everyone else in the universe does.

Should I be expecting half-Twi'lek grandbabies? :D

Do I need to define "hopelessly" and "wholly inappropriate" for you? Are these concepts unknown in the Republic?

*

From: Rowyn

Aww, I'm sorry, son. I didn't know the Empire even had anti-fraternization rules. At least not ones that applied to the Sith.

*

From: Voiddancer
Subject: Re: Getting back to Vette.

Yes, I'm sure it's not against the rules for the Sith to do whatever we please. A lack of applicable rules does not change the abusiveness of such a thing.

Where did you pick this stuff up? It can't have been from the Empire and certainly not from me.

Yes, well, I didn't end up fathering a child at 16, either.

Touché.

Look, I am sorry. Not trying to harass you about grandkids, honest. The idea of being a grandmother is rather terrifying, in fact. I just want you to be happy.

I am happy, mom. I get to see her every day, and I have a good team to work with, and that's all that matters.
